The API Portal is a central place to interact with the Wikimedia API served through api.wikimedia.org. You can explore APIs, read documentation, and manage API keys. The API Portal is maintained by the Wikimedia Foundation.
We welcome contributions to the API Portal. If you're a developer or documentation writer and would like to contribute a code sample or tutorial, please leave a comment on the Contributing discussion page. Currently, editing pages in the API Portal is restricted to the documentation editors group. This is due to limited resources for patrolling during the 2020-2021 experimental phase of the API Portal. We look forward to opening the API Portal to traditional editing in the future.
The API Portal will be announced to the wider Wikimedia movement in 2021. Following the official launch, we'll be looking into enabling editing and translation for all editors, developing an API sandbox, and exploring strategies for documentation automation.
